This past Friday, 2/3 of the Divas took a trip to the Big Apple (aka New York City). This included myself as well as my sis Callie. I know the title gives it away, but I'm going to make you guess anyways... So, why did Callie and I go to New York you might ask? To see One Direction of course! The huge Directioners that we are, when we discovered that they were having a concert near our hometown we just HAD to go. We did this even knowing that Big Time Rush was performing (no offense to Rushers or anything).
When we returned home from school that Friday, March 9th 2012, Callie and I rushed up stairs to determine what we were going to wear. After much deliberation, we came down to our final choices. Callie decided on a bright yellow sweater and flower headband (a technique to stand out in the crowd. Good thinking Callie!) while I wore a pale flower top with a burgundy cardigan. To top it off, I used Caroline's technique and added a red rose hat.
Unfortunately, I had a bit of a sore throat, so I kept quiet on the way there in order to save my voice for the concert. That meant no singing One Direction on the way there which was EXTREMELY difficult considering the excitement that I was feeling!
Finally, after about two hours, Callie and I had reached Radio City. We had for a bit feared that we would miss the boys because of traffic, but my mom (who is awesome :) ) pulled through and got us there right on time. Dashing to our seats, the show began... or so we thought. We were uninformed that there was in fact another opening act... The first opener was Jackson Guthy, who I had never heard of before. He was okay, but with the anticipation of seeing One Direction, Callie and I were just wanting him to hurry up!
Then, the lights went out and a flag was drawn across the back of the stage, it read... ONE DIRECTION!!!!! In shock, I didn't even notice them walking on the stage until my mom poked my arm and screamed,
"Look, down there, they're coming on!"
Oh my gosh.... Oh my gosh.... Oh my gosh....
The boys I had been watching , listening to, and supporting for so long were now right in front of me. It was almost too much to handle. I won't bore you with the details of the whole concert. I mean, I guess it wouldn't be boring, but being honest I can't really describe a concert. If anybody does know how to retell a concert though, please let me know. In the mean time, I will just attach the links to some recordings :) .
After One Direction was done with their part of the concert, which consisted of them singing I Want, Moments, Use Somebody, More Than This, One Thing, Up All Night, and What Makes You Beautiful, we left to wait at the stage door (again, I apologize Rushers).
A crowd, however, had already been formed around the door creating a barrier that would not allow us to seem them whenever they planned to come out. The fast thinkers we are though, we discovered it was a one way street and ran to the end knowing that they would have to drive that way.
Then, the screams erupted. The boys were out and heading our way. Although we were planning on singing them What Makes You Beautiful, harmonies and all, we knew at this point there wouldn't be enough time, so Callie and I just put on our best smiles and waved at them. For about 10 seconds it was just us and One Direction and it was amazing. I really do look up to them and to be so close to someone you admire just feels great. However, that moment was broken when all these fan girls rushed over and literally jumped on the car pounding on the windows. Callie and I felt terrible knowing how scary that must be, but soon enough the car got out of the mob of girls and drove away.
I have to say that was probably one of the best moments of my life and I'm sure Callie would agree. We can't wait to see them perform again and hopefully meet them. I hope that all you fan girls calm a bit down though because, although I know you are excited, One direction are very young and this can be very overwhelming. I have recently been seeing that other fans are also getting hurt at these events as well, so in order for Directioners to prevent One Direction and other fans from getting hurt, we must respect one another and act like a family :) . One Direction should be appreciated and praised for their music (amazing music) that they create, but I don't believe that they should be attacked and mobbed because of it.
So, in conclusion, One Direction performed an AMAZING concert that they should be very proud of. They had the whole crowd jumping so much that the mezzanine (where Callie and I were standing) was shaking! So... scary... You guys rock and you kept Callie and I Up All Night!
Love you boys <3
Katy
P.s. I was so happy when I returned home from school today and discovered that Up All Night deluxe edition and regular edition were topping the iTunes charts at number one and two!!!!!!
